When I was young my mother was driving by the St. Mary's Cemetery. In the middle of the cemetery there's this large cross. Above the cross I saw a clear foggy figure floating. I only saw it for a moment and I vaguely remember it. But I know it was something. No one believes me and they all say it must have been a dream but it wasn't it was there...it was real. I am from Putnam, been here pretty much all my childhood. I have since left , as we all do. I come back to visit friends and family. When do come back I always go the St Mary cemetery to visit my friend Lynn's grave. Tell her my life stories, you know the things you talk about in a grave yard. In 1996 a friend of mine drown at Alexander's Lake , he is buried in St Mary's also. I helped raised money to get him a head stone. We had a huge benefit concert at Joker's. It was amazing how the community and business pitched in. And with the help from Mr. Whipple we were able to

do so . I left before I saw the head stone I knew the area where he was buried but was never able to find it when I came home ..
Last year I went home to spread my mother's ashes and did my yearly visit to St Mary's. I sat and talked to Lynn for a bit, and got back in the car and I was pulled to find John's Grave... I drove to the back the cemetery,

parked the car, walked up to a cluster of head stone's.
I found his stone; I had to laugh at the funny sayings that we put on the headstone; things he used to say, at that point a piece of paper blew over my feet.. I reached down to pick it up and it was very old and ripped , I looked at it backward and it was upside down .. it was a 8x10 sheet of paper written in thick black ink . I said to myself, that looks like my writing, I turned it around tuned it right side up and it was my hand writing !!!!!!!, It took me a second to actually take in what I was reading... it was a flyer for the benefit concert for John at Joker's .. it was over 12 years old ... It just didn't make sense. This should not have survived the new England winter, rain and every other elements we get in new England , just at that point another smaller piece of paper flew by. I was scared to pick it up. I looked around the grave yard and there was no garbage flying around. The grave site was in the middle of the cemetery, so it could not have come out of the woods. I

reached down and picked it up. It was a clipping from the Norwich bulletin. I just got goose bumps. The paper had some dirt and stuff on it and with the slight brushing it off with my fingers. It was a thank you from his family. Something I had never seen before. I just started crying .. There was no way that those pieces of paper were supposed t be there ... It is 12 years old .. I folded up the papers and tucked them in my car.. And drove off. I still have the papers today.. For along time I blamed myself for his death. I dared him that afternoon to walk to my cottage, we were talking across the lake. I was saying chicken... He didn't cross that time he walked to our house. We met him on the path and he came for lunch, but that night he did cross and tried to walk to the restaurant where he work. The Lake , he never got there. He fell through the ice and drowned. Maybe he was saying thank you ??
