Woodbury is a very old town and has several places that have paranormal activities. My family lived briefly in an old house on the river across from the Pomperaug Mill, and we had numerous unexplained occurrences while we lived there, finally leading to my parents moving the family to another home. A neighbor who had lived nearby all of her life told my folks that there had been a murder in the house, but I could never find out any information regarding any
violence in the home.|

I heard back in the settlers days there was an Indian massacre in the woods behind where Woodlake is now. Friends have told stories of paranormal activity. Seeing things walk by their led alarm clock in a dark bedroom or pets freaking out at stuff not there.

Comment by Richard: The indigenous tribes in the Pomperaug Valley maintained a village near what is now the ''Hollow '' and planted crops there. This large flat area was continually burned off for centuries by the natives so that it would remain open for raising corn and other vegetables.
Across the river and downstream were there burial grounds which were unfortunately disturbed in the 1940s and 50s by the wholesale excavation and removal of sand and gravel from the area. Perhaps this desecration of sacred ground accounts for some of the paranormal happenings in the surrounding area.
