Smithfield, Maine Ghost Tales The house that I grew up in is one of the oldest homes in town aside from Deans home on the corner. I remember clearly playing with my invisible friend named Rebecca in the attic as a child. Both my sister and I share vivid memories of similar sightings of a little girl dressed in an antique white dress playing in the attic, (which once had been the hay loft of the large barn attached to the house), in our teenage and adult years. The creepy part of this story is when I found my daughter playing in the attic one day with an old tea set that once belonged to the previous owners great aunt (who had died in the house as a child in the mid 1800's). I was currently cleaning out old boxes and found her chatting away all by herself and passing a tea cup accross the table. When I asked her what she was up to she answered, ''don't you just love Rebeccas' prety dress, we're haning tea!''.
