Waterville, Maine Ghost Tales    My family & I lived here in Waterville. Almost every night we would hear someone walking upstairs to our apt. And when we opened the door there was nobody there. A lot of times we would hear some knocking on the door & when one of us answered it, Again no one was there. At times my stepson & I would see strange things & figures of people in very old clothes. Then suddenly they would start walking away & vanish. I could keep going with what I have seen in Waterville but, you may not believe it so I guess I'll just keep the rest to myself. - Ghost picture submitted by Les BIGGER SIZE PICTURE HERE       Categories: home, sounds, figures When I was a teenager in the late 1970s, two friends of mine rented a small apartment on Center St. in Waterville. Soon after they moved in, strange things began to happen. Various ones of our friends would often hear footsteps ascending the stairs to the apartment and hear a knock on the door but when we opened it, nothing was there. One time as I was walking toward the door to answer it following the footsteps and rapping, the knock sounded again and I could see the door shake. I opened it to - nothing. At other times, we could hear footsteps and things in the other room being moved around, but when we investigated, it all stopped and was normal. The strange noises went on for the entire time my friends rented the apartment, (about two years), and were finally the reason they moved out since toward the end of the time they lived there, the incidents became more frequent and more alarming. We wondered in after years if the current tenants ever witnessed anything unusual, but to my knowledge, none of my old friends have ever checked       it out. The stairs/knocking incident happened way too many times to too many people for it to have been anyone's imagination or something rational. The other incidents could have had logical explanations, I guess. As a child, the apartment in the back on the second floor was haunted. Strange events occurred from things moving, seeing phantom at the end of my bed. to mists. i live in california now but every time I go past the house I long to go and meet who ever lives there and wonder if the same experiences are happening to them. Things occur in this town that can't be rationally explained. Several locals declare these accounts are untrue, but with so many ghosts in Waterville you have a quite fine chance of catching a sight of one if you stay for the night in this town. An army uniform pacing about lacking a body in it has been said to have been noticed on a few occasions searching through garbage container on a Waterville road.
