When I was a teenager in the late 1970s, two friends of mine rented a small apartment on Center St. in Waterville. Soon after they moved in, strange things began to happen. Various ones of our friends would often hear footsteps ascending the stairs to the apartment and hear a knock on the door but when we opened it, nothing was there. One time as I was walking toward the door to answer it following the footsteps and rapping,

the knock sounded again and I could see the door shake. I opened it to - nothing. At other times, we could hear footsteps and things in the

other room being moved around, but when we investigated, it all stopped and was normal. The strange noises went on for the entire time my friends rented the apartment, (about two years), and were finally the reason they moved out since toward the end of the time they lived there, the incidents became more frequent and more alarming. We wondered in after years if the current tenants ever witnessed anything unusual, but to my knowledge,
