  Scituate is an old coastal New England town with homes dating back to the 1680's. Many of these dwellings have fascinating stories of secret passageways, Indian raids, piracy, the underground railroad, smuggling, and bootlegging. Ghost stories abound and sightings of apparitions and witnessed phenomena are entwined with the town's rich history. The house known as ''Two Stacks'' was built in 1700 by the Little family. It
    was so named because of the massive twin chimneys that in earlier times could be seen by mariners while sailing off the coast of this community
25 miles south of Boston. In the colonial period Scituate was a prosperous seafaring town that also included numerous African born slaves. Colonial Scituate listed more slaves than any other community in the former Plymouth Colony. It was whispered for years that centered in the ''Two Stacks'' attic was a well worn whipping post where slaves that had ''displeased'' their colonial masters were chained and whipped.
