Califon, New Jersey Ghost Tales The other night I was going to bed and I saw a white shadow in my bed. As soon as I called for my dad, he disappeared into thin air. This was the only time I've seen paranormal activity. Many people in the vicinity have had matching sightings involving the same ghost. A gentleman with no head came into view in Long Valley at midnight       carving a nook. This ghost is very active in this area; there have been a small number of other stories of this precise ghost. A tremendously scary ghost was spotted hovering over the Fox Hill Range at midnight. This is one of those spirits that is observed time and again close at hand. The phantom of an old woman hauling a firearm was   spotted laundering a blood-splattered pair of pants in Fox Hill Spring late in the night. The watcher fled immediately after she distinguished the ghost. The ghost of a flight attendant has frequently been witnessed marching through a house near Califon. The spirit of an elderly Indian chief is frequently observed by Camp Beisler Dam late at night looking at the water. The ghost of an elderly cleaning lady is known to have been observed on a handful of occasions at a public phone in Califon making a telephone call. A pitch black bat that turned into a lady can frequently be perceived hauling a dead body through some bushes in Hacklebarney State Park late in the night. Anyhow, this phantom indisputably is bloodcurdling; one that is better not disrupted. The ghost of a down-and-out man may be observed often after midnight drifting along on Axle Brook. In any event, this is a horrible ghost that you don't want to meet at the stroke of midnight. The phantom of a youthful cowboy has sometimes been spotted walking through a Califon vicinity graveyard. Some of the folks here allege this ghost is the ghost of a visitor that was killed while traveling through Califon a long time ago.
