When I was a child my mother would tell me of the ghosts dragging the chains every night around midnight and chanting in what to them was an African song. I grew up in New York City, for my 15th birthday I was sent to Playa Guayanes in Yabucoa. I was sitting on the front porch of the house. Sure enough around midnight you could hear the chants, see the slaves attached to each other in chains walking in the direction of the sea.|
I ran into the house and will
never be on the porch again after 10 pm.|

When I was a kid I thought I saw a mermaid down at the beach out in the sea. I know now that it wasn't a mermaid but I know I saw something. A woman in the sea sticking out halfway. A ghost of some sort I assume. But a child would naturally think of a mermaid.
