Cranston, Rhode Island Ghost Tales A Resourceful, Thirsty, Party Ghost - I lived for several years in a lovely three storey, nine room Edgewood Victorian, which happened to be located next to a funeral home. Our house had a large dining room which we used as a family room and spent most of our time in the evenings. Across the front hall was a fireplaced double living room, which we used only occasionally. This living room, as it happens, was located on the side facing the back entrance of the funeral home where the bodies were brought in, which fact never stopped us from using the room for parties, with its crown molded high ceilings, grand piano, and pretty wooden mantled fireplace. Over the years, it happened that the house had recurring and sometimes inexplicable problems with water leaks. Also, from time to time during the evening hours, members of the household would hear what sounded like footsteps and the clinking of ice cubes coming from the living room when, apparently, nobody was there! I think that we may have had a thirsty ghost, who perhaps wandered over from       next door, and wished to extend one of the many parties that were given in this room. And those mysterious water leaks? Perhaps this party spirit had trouble physically operating the faucets, but found a way to see to it that there was always an occasional bit of rain water trickling in, to refresh its drink. Never a sighting, never a scream or a ghostly   moan; just an occasional footstep and the happy sound if clinking ice cubes in the living room as though the party must never end! And another water leak to take care of! This story has an epilogue. A few weeks after we sold the house to a professional couple, we got a call from one of the new owners. She calmly asked us if we knew about any ghosts in the house, and we told her the stories. Then she told us that she had been in the basement that morning, busily taking care of the laundry. She distinctly felt a tap on her shoulder. Only slightly startled, and thinking that it was her husband, she said, ''Not right now,'' without turning around, and continued loading the dryer, clearly hearing the sound of footsteps going upstairs. Minutes later, she went upstairs herself and discovered that her husband was not at home. When he returned, he said that he had been gone for more than an hour, and had not gone into the basement that morning! .
