Newport, Rhode Island Ghost Tales So to start, I am a respected member of my community. Well educated etc etc etc. This was over 10 years ago. I was a young, cocky engineer with the NUWC. I used to live on King St near the Viking hotel. So one night my girlfriend at the time woke me up worries because she thought someone was in our apartment. We shared the house with an old lady that lived down stairs. She slept most of the night, and the house was a fortress. I told her she was dreaming and to go back to sleep. About 30 seconds later, I heard the footsteps too. They were clear, loud, and distinct. Someone was in my apartment. Half scared but ready to beat the crap out of someone, I left the bedroom and search our entire apartment (500/month for this massive apartment.. Those were the days).. There was nothing. I made it to the kitchen, I grabbed 2 big knives, and I searched again. Still nothing. I went downstairs to see if the old lady was awake, she wasn't. (She weighed in at 95lbs, she couldn't have made that sound). So after finding nothing, I went back to bed.       It's close to 1am, and every so often the footsteps would come back. I continued to search, nothing though. I was clearly coming from the walkway in front of my door. That led to the servants quarters on the 3rd floor. No one lived there though. I'm not saying it was a ghost, I have no solid proof of it. But with the history of the house, and what   I know I heard, I know there was something I just couldn't explain going on there. . A partially translucent man dressed as the captain of a vessel is often noticed at Easton Pond South Dam in the early morning hours looking at the vista.
