We moved into an old farmhouse (1800s) which had been converted to a duplex. The side in which we lived had three bedrooms a living room and kitchen. Off the kitchen was a large closet and off that was a two-seater outhouse. I guess you could consider it an indoor outhouse. My bedroom was upstairs a large room with wide Pine floor     boards two windows and a walk-in closet. All of the doors were original with wrought Iron hardware including a thumb latch. That door would spontaneously open about 2'' for the first three weeks we lived there after which it would open wide. The noise was scary every time that latch lifted with no one there. My father banged on the ceiling beneath the closet and jumped up-and-down in and around the room to get the door to open to no avail. We had two dogs and a cat that would sense things. They would look up toward the ceiling when no one was up   (continued on the next page...)
