The ghost of a bum is regularly perceived on the highest spot of Baxter Mountain before dawn viewing the vista. Many locals assert this spirit is the stressed soul of a long dead Downsville resident.
The phantom of a young-looking woman soaked in blood is known to have been witnessed on one or two occasions dragging a dead body through some bushes in Bear Spring Mountain Game Management Area after midnight.
