Hempstead, New York Ghost Tales I grew up in a house on Chase street in Hempstead where my family lived for close to fifty years prior to 2002. The house is haunted. While I lived there, it was impossible to sleep in the dark due to the presence of a spirit that liked to stalk the dining room, attic, and small room in the back on the second floor. I remember waking up and seeing a woman wearing an apron and a scarf tied around her head fanning me. I woke up and saw a face in the middle of the night, and as a child things would move the bed, couch after I fell asleep. My sister who still lives in Hempstead and remaining family members had similar experiences. Supposedly, prior to my grandmother taking ownership of the house in the forties, an old woman passed away in the house. Things turn on by themselves. The lights will shut off and various sounds like cries, and footsteps can be heard. It is haunted and there are more than a few witnesses. After I moved out in 1990, I refused to enter the house when I visited my grandmother out of fear. . She had black hair and she was looking down. I have pretty bad eyes, so I figured it was my sister. I said my sister's name. She didn't answer. I walked close enough to realize it wasn't her. I ran out of the room and didn't   look back. A female with her head removed came into view reading a newsletter in Albertson Park very late at night. The ghost didn't appear to be worried by the witnesses. Some of the residents argue this phantom is the undead soul of an old Hempstead local resident. A military uniform marching around lacking a body in it was witnessed trying to find someone mid stream in Bedell Creek. When the phantom was spotted it faded away into the night. In any case, it's without a doubt a chilling ghost that you do not want to meet around midnight.
