So as we stood around under a crystal clear starry sky, the sounds went on and on. Fatigue won out over fascination. While the sounds of the battle still raged, I went back to the tent and fell right asleep. An hour later I awoke with a start. The cheering was continuing, but I had had enough and went back to sleep and slept until dawn. During the cheering I made a tour of the park but did not find a public address system or speakers of any kind.
No one else was there to make the noise. Across the street was Cemetery Ridge. There were no nearby stadiums or arenas. The park was closed and empty

This was actually the second time I had heard the drums and the cheering. I had camped at Artillery Ridge years before and woke up to the sounds of cheering and a long drum roll. My wife and daughter did not wake up, and I assumed that I was hearing some kind of July 4 weekend sports event. The second time I had no doubts but plenty of witnesses. I wonder if anyone else has encountered this ghostly sound of battle.
