I grew up in Warminster, but the strangest experience was when I was six. When I was little I was scared to sleep alone. So, of course, my parents improvised. I had to sleep alone, but I could have the hallway light on with my bedroom door open, and my father would turn it off when I was asleep. It was the second week of when my first experience happened. I woke up in the middle of the night, why? I did not know. I was a heavy sleeper. The only way to wake me was to scream my name. I was half asleep when I noticed that the hallway light was still on. By the window outside, I could tell it was around midnight already. My father would never leave that light on. He is cheap like that.

I heard someone whisper my name. I, at the time, believing it was my father. I waited, but I heard nothing. Then, as I was about to fall back to sleep, I saw a figure standing in the doorway. It was of a girl. I had no sisters. She looked around eleven or twelve. She had straight hair that was dirty blonde, a grayish-white dress on, and smiled as she saw me. Though I noticed that with each passing second, her smile would get darker. One of those smiles that you knew held a secret, and from then on I and my family's life seemed to get harder. Me being a scared six-year-old, I hid under my blanket and chanted in my head ''it's not real. It's not real. '' After that I never saw her again.

Though I never saw her after that, things just never felt right. It felt like someone was always looming over you. I was always scared to be alone in the house sometimes. After her I witnessed a man standing on the side of my bed. As I looked at him, he was wearing all black with a hood covering his head and face. He just stood there not moving.

In the morning my mother claimed to have heard someone saying her name that night and choked her. The thing though, was that when my mother was a child, she would see a man in a cloak. Later when I was ten, I saw a boy in my house. He appeared to be about the same age as me. He just sat on our carpet and stared at the floor. You could hear mumbling coming from him. That night, my brother claimed to have seen an old man with a top hat and knife.

Now as I reflect on my experiences, I noticed that the younger I was, the more things would happen. I also noticed that most of them happened when I was alone, and no one else was in the house. Sometimes even with the bad spirits lurking, a few spirits would make me feel safe from them. Like the boy. Soon things lightened up in my family again, but it always felt like they were still there watching.
