East New Market, Maryland Ghost Tales East New Market High School was built on the site of the old town graveyard.  In the 1920s and 1830s, one of the unsanctioned student activities included digging into the dirt walls of basement.  Many bones were discovered in the old soil.  The spirits of former residents have been roaming around the school ever since. If you talk to the local residents, this ghost may be the spirit of a local who passed away here in East New Market long ago.
