Recently a friend of mine has seen a spirit walking in the Zionsville area. This has been a spirit looking like that of an old Confederate soldier. It has said to have been walking along roads and creeks and then disappearing into trees. Many have claimed to have seen it up close to their homes. To the locals it is considered not dangerous, but many don't quite believe that. People are warned to take caution and report any sightings.|

I am a student at Appalachian State University. Back in November of 2013 I was walking home from King's Street late at night after dinner at Mellow Mushroom (I'd say around midnight) with my roommate. We passed Mellow Mushroom on our right and continued down to the end of the road (onto Rivers Street) near the woods that mark the end of campus. Halfway down the road we heard a girl scream. It started very faint, got a tad louder, but quickly snapped back to silence. The eerie thing for me was that it sounded like it was right in my ear as opposed to it sounding far away (being so faint and quiet and all. ) There weren't other people in the area. Despite the creepy fact that it sounded so close we didn't think of it as paranormal, but rather broke into a brisk run as girls are often targeted late at night in that area by people with bad intentions. We made it to the end of that road and made a sharp left onto Rivers when we heard the screaming again. It sounded to be coming from the direction of the woods and seemed more distressed.
Whenever suspicious activity happens on or near campus we receive police reports about it ASAP, but the next day we received nothing, and we never did. Later in February of 2014 a friend came to me to tell me about a thesis paper he learned of in the campus library that a student wrote some years ago about the ghost stories of Appalachian State University (if you're a student currently, go check it out!) He asked me to join him in checking it out, to which I agreed. When it was my turn to take a look through it I read one story in particular that struck me with almost a cold sweat. Apparently in the 90s there was a girl who got drunk with some guy friends. She lived in East Hall, but the guy friends lived in an apartment on King's Street near the woods (the woods we ran by) and decided that in order to get the most privacy they would go into the woods, but by the time they got to the woods the girl passed out. Drunk and upset that she passed out the young men began to aggressively violated her one by one until she woke up. She received no help despite her screams. She never reported to the police as she was ashamed that she offered the men favors in the first place and believed her pain to be all her fault. She fell into a terrible depression. A month later she learned she was pregnant, and she committed suicide in the basement of East Hall.
The thesis paper described her ghost sightings as seeing a girl covered in blood in the basement of East Hall (which already has a dark, morbid past) and hearing a girl screaming near the wooded side of campus. I don't know if we heard her disheveled spirit's creaming or not, but I haven't been anywhere near those woods since. They just give off a creepy old feeling anyway.
