Clayton, North Carolina Ghost Tales Independently, My wife and daughter have described what would likely be the ghost of a Union officer in the woods near the Caterpiller Plant in Clayton. Additionally, an enlisted soldier woul be seen eating from a can with a knife in this same area. During the first six months that we lived in a house on Crenshaw, our great dane would run to the dinning room every night, at about 10:00 and bark. Just an inquisitive 'Woof', after which the other rooms would get cold. We welcomed the 'visitor', as though he was part of the family. All of the sudden, he stopped coming by. Oddly, we never felt afraid or threatened by any of the abberitions that we saw. The frightening spirit of a Barbarian can often be distinguished taking pleasure in the scenery at Austins Pond Dam at the stroke of midnight.
