I once saw the lady ghost at Spencer Mtn Mansion. It was around the same time of the haunted house put on by the fire dept. I saw her standing at a window. Thought it was just a regular person dressed in period attire.
Later found out no one was dressed like that for the haunted house and learned about the ghost. Creepy. Chills went down my spine when I read the story about the ghost in the paper. I thought wow I saw a real ghost!.

I just read the tid bit about Spencer Mountain and Lincoln Academy being haunted. Here is my insight on Spencer Mountain. I have been there and I have investigated the entire area including the mansion/grounds. There were some old graves that were dug up when the Mill Houses were being built back in its heyday. There is also the Hoffman Grave site(s) between Starr Boulevard and Ranlo-Spencer Road. From what I understand, there was also a suicide nearby the river on July 4th, 1920s. From what I understand, Sarah Pharr had built the Mansion/The Old Lovehouse for her grandson. However, he had an ailment and he didn't live long enough to enjoy the mansion so, Sarah made a 'vow' stating ''that no one was to live in the house or to make anything out of it. '' Since then people have tried to renovate the mansion and only to begin having trouble with losing their tools and finding them in odd places (you can tell people have attempted to renovate by how the walls have big spackling area but, never finished, the local fire dept held a Halloween event there and only have a colleague see a figure through his mask and go running out the front door stating ''I WILL NEVER GO BACK IN THAT HOUSE EVER AGAIN. '' Ever since then it was left abandoned, and the owners put up ''No Trespassing'' signs, and I personally found one up against the back of the house with the concrete attached to the bottom. The only real experience I ever had was hearing footsteps in broad daylight and seeing the balcony light flicker faintly and the street light as well. The power line no longer exists.
No for Lincoln Academy; I will say that any rumor is true about Satanic Worshippers using the old shed for any of the rituals they performed. However, I will have to differ from the ENTIRE area being haunted by Kathleen Ruth Smiley. I never felt any bad at the cemetery but only around the old shed. I feel there may've been 'portals' opened by the occultists that could explain many of the things some of you may be experiencing. I will say that Lincoln Academy itself is not haunted, just paranormal activity. I am sure many of you out there have heard about the young lady that was brutally murdered out there. I will make my research short for you. Kathleen Ruth Smiley NEVER planned to be in NC on April, 21 1974. She was going to meet her mother and younger sister at a Lake Lanier. Kathleen was running very low on gas in her Red VW ('74 model) and needed help and would see her in a bit. She was having breakfast with her dad and sister at a Denny's in Atlanta, GA. Well, When she went to get gas, 2 guys offered to help her, they got the can of gas but, instead, the 2 guys abducted her and they ended up in just outside Gastonia and at Lincoln Academy ruins (when they were still there, all woods are now gone)and that's where Kathleen met her fate.

Comment by Shane: I just wanted to clarify Kathleen Smiley had called her mother to let her know she was low on gas and she would swing by the house to grab a few things but she never arrived. She was to meet back up with her father and sister at Lake Lanier.
