Oak Island, North Carolina Ghost Sightings
While staying in a house on the canal between Fifth Street and Sixth Street in Long Beach during the middle nineteen seventies I was awakened from a dead sleep in the middle of the night by the noise of a party in the next room. When I entered the room it was full of what appeared to be eighteenth century English sailors drinking and having a wild party. They flew out the window and were never seen again. At least not by me.|

In September 1995 my mother and I decided to go to Long Beach, NC for one last trip to the beach for the year. One night I was sitting out on the deck of the duplex where we were staying, which was a few yards from the pier, enjoying the quiet warm night. Looking towards the pier I saw a man walking down the beach in my direction. Looking more closely I noticed his clothing. He was dressed in what appeared to be a woolen pea coat and long wide leg trousers. I wondered why he was dressed too warmly for such a pleasant night. I watch him closely as he walked, not looking left nor right, only looking straight ahead. As he came closer to the steps of the deck where I was sitting he disappeared.
That is when I went to the end of the deck steps to see where he went. There was no sight of him. He did not go into the ocean for there was enough light I would have seen him, nor did he go up the small dune beside the apartment. Being the end of the summer season there were no lights on at any of the homes down the beach. He simply vanished from sight. I never told anyone about this for several years because I thought people would say I had imagined it. Now years later I often wonder if he was a real ghost, and if anyone else has ever seen him or maybe hear a story about him.
