Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina Ghost Tales A few weeks ago there was a terrible fire in Ocean Isle Beach that claimed the lives of 7 college students. I pass the house that burned 4 or 5 mornings a week around 5 a.m. on my way to look for sea shells on the beach. This morning at 5:15 I was approaching the street where the burned out house is and someone was crossing the street walking towards the house. I hit my high beems and brakes to let the ''person'' cross the street. I was 20 - 30 yards away. As I got closer the person was actually a grey/white figure. I slowed down more and as the figure got to the other side of the street, I swear, it disappeared. It looked to be a tall male figure, I could see shoes but then, it wasn't there. I don't know what I saw and I don't know what to believe but I saw ''something'' that I can't explain. Nevertheless, it certainly is a scary ghost that you would not want to bump into before dawn. A moderately decomposed human dead body is rumored to have been perceived on numerous occasions seeking a bag in the center of Big Gut Slough.
