Sparta, North Carolina Ghost Tales There is several spirits that dwell in a house on Reeves Ridge Road in Sparta. There have been several sightings by the owners of the house. There is one apparition that shows an old man standing over a woman in the bed. The story is that the woman was very sick and the man stood over her day by day and took care of her until she died. There is also the spirit of a young soldier that died there back in the 1800's. He was wounded during the war, and died at the age of fifteen. He has been see by children that have stayed at this house. He can be heard running up and down the steps. On visitor that is said to be able to have contact with spirits told the home owners that the boy means no harm he just wants to play with the children that visit the house. Also she said that the spirit of a woman wants to make her presence known, and wants to talk to the owner, but she does not want to scare them away. These appear to be very friendly spirits, they haven't caused many problems. They have terrified several children, but have never harmed anyone       to my knowledge. The ghost of an engine driver may regularly be perceived up on the highest spot of Bald Knob clutching a cranium. Based on what the people who live here allege, this ghost may perhaps be a well-known past inhabitant of Sparta. The ghost of an appallingly mangled huntsman pulling a dead moose can be spotted time and again looking at the water by Air Bellows Dam at night.
