There is a building downtown where Church Street ends at 6th Street that was active while R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. Owned it. They called it ''50-1''; it was used for many things over the years including a call center, training center, Depot and storage.
In the last years before RJR sold it the top floors were used for storage, so nobody was up there much unless they were moving something. It was not unusual to be on the 5th floor (next to the top) and hear stuff rolling across the 6th floor above you (very top floor. ) People on the fourth floor would also hear stuff rolling around on the 5th floor when nobody was up there. We never found anything out of place though. There was no air conditioning, so we'd open windows on the 6th floor when the weather was hot. We'd try to remember to close them at quitting time, but if we forgot we would find that something had closed them anyway for us. A couple of times I actually heard them closing as I was walking up there, but I couldn't find any person or wind to attribute it to. I just thanked ''whoever'' and continued on my way.

A fairly frequent odd occurrence happened on the 3rd floor. At the time this floor was also unused and only had emergency lights on. When you got off the freight elevator you faced a hallway, and you turned right to go into the majority of the space. After a short distance you turned left again as the hall went around the empty former call center. You would briefly encounter three ''people'' coming around that corner at you, and they looked real enough that you'd duck out of their way to avoid a collision. They were a man, apparently his wife, and apparently their son, dressed in fairly modern clothes. After ducking them they would be gone as you turned to apologize. I have never heard any stories about why a ''family'' would be up there.

There were other odd noises and feelings throughout the building. It has been renovated into apartments now, so I wonder if the new tenants experience anything or if the renovations vanquished the spirits. Submitted by Ferd

In 1984 my mom and I moved in to an apartment on Ivy Avenue across from Hanes High School. We had no bed, but we had blankets. We were sleeping on the floor, and I was awakened by the covers being yanked off of me. Something was pulling my legs and was pulling me towards the bedroom. I thought I was dreaming at first because I saw no one, but it happened several more times. I became scared and angry. I looked into the area where I felt it was, and I yelled ''leave me alone''. I tried to wake my mom, but she was exhausted from the move. It finally let me sleep. When I got my bed it would shake it at night. I will never forget. We moved, and I found out my cousins had paranormal experiences also.
