My grandmother has lived in Branchville all of her life. She has told me stories about how early in the morning, if you go out on the front porch, how you can smell a very distinct, sweet-smelling smell of tobacco. As a young boy, I always thought she was just saying that so we wouldn't stay up all night. But me and my cousin decided to test this. We stood out their all night long. however, at about 1:30ish, we started smelling some sweet-smelling tobacco. Scared out of our minds, we ran inside and never said another word about it until the next day. Turns out, the smell belonged to a cotton farmer that died beside the land 100 or so years ago. Freaky? Oh yea!.
