Folly Beach, South Carolina Ghost Tales My husband and I lived on Folly Beach, S.C. in 1982 while he was stationed at the navy base in Charleston.  One evening, just before dusk we were walking along the beach as we loved to do most evenings.  While we were walking side by side and talking along the coast we observed a man walking toward us in the distance.  There were very few people on the beach then, maybe a couple behind us on down the beach a ways and no one was in sight before us except this one man.  My husband and I were having a conversation and enjoying the sea breeze.  As we walked further down the beach the gentleman continued       to walk toward us.  Eventually after a while our directions took us closer to him and he nodded his head in recognition of me as we began to pass eachother.  I realized when he acknowledged me then that   he was a distinquished sort of man.  Perhaps in his late 50's or early 60's.  He had gentle eyes and graying hair which was covered with a black cap.  He wore dark clothes, a coat over his shirt and dark pants.  He reminded me of an old sea captain.  The strange thing that happened to us was when he passed us.  It was then I turned to look at him...I guess thinking he was pretty unique.  Low and behold he was gone!  There was nowhere he could have gone out of sight in the couple of seconds it took for me to look back for him.  I immediately asked my husband, Randy....where did that man go?  He turned around to look with me and the man was nowhere in sight.  We scanned the stretch of beach along the water and up toward the road area and he was not there.  He could not have had enough time to walk anywhere that we would have not been able to see him.  We know we saw a ghost on Folly Beach that night and I will never forget him.  The ghost actually greeted me as we passed eachother and then vanished into thin air.
