I recall about 7 years ago now, when I was just barely a teenager, living in a lovely house deep in the woods of Dickerson road. It all seemed pretty normal there - wildlife, trees, people letting their dogs have free run.
Peaceful. Yet, as my eyes and ears cast around me, I began to notice things that were more... Well, abnormal. It did not happen often in my two years of life there, but it happened well enough to take notice, and the events are still clear in my mind.

Once, I heard a the whinny and neigh of a horse outside my second-floor window - peering out, though I doubted to see anything, I was greeted with just that. Nothing. I dismissed it as late-night imaginings.

Then, once, as I retrieved the mail from the box by the road, I heard a loud snort, and felt a hot puff of air on the back of my neck. I spun around, and, again, found nothing on the old road but dirt, grass, and sunshine dappling through branches.
I again, dismissed it, for I have always had an active imagination. It didn't stay in my mind too long before something else distracted me, and it lay forgotten. The event that I remember with the most stunning of clarity happened less than an hour after sundown.
The darkness had engulfed the wood, and I had a small light on beside me, made to look like a candle, as I read a book. The first thing I heard was the neigh. It was distant, muffled, as one would expect to hear a horse out on the road from inside a silent house.
