Dryden, Virginia Ghost Tales | |
|
In Dryden, VA there is an old road. This road connects Dryden with a backwoods area know as Olinger, and it travels over an mountain that is known as ''Iron Ridge''. Most people call this road the ''Old Ridge Road''.
Many people have lost their lives on this mountain, more specifically traveling across this road. Many wrecks, murders, and natural causes have claimed many lives on this road, not to mention the many disappearances that have happened there. The area always seems quiet and cool, no matter how much sound, or the temperature of the summer heat.
It is said, that you can travel to the top of the mountain, and set there for a few moments, you can hear things. The sounds of breaking limbs, in the distance. Then a eerie wind will begin to blow. It is said that when this wind blows, you can hear voices whispering your name, as if to beckon you to enter the dense forest of the mountain. This voice is the voice of the ''Woods Walker''.
The ''Woods Walker'' is a legend around the small town of Dryden, with many of the deaths

They say that it is the walking grounds of a Kalona, a fierce Cherokee demon. The strange part is that the Kalona is known as an imitator. What a very strange coincidence, huh?

So when he found out his partner had terminal cancer it was difficut pretending to be sad over this turn of events. Soon afterwards his business partner died, and his family had a huge monument erected telling all he had accomplished in life. Within a year the jealous man had married his dead partners wife, had full use of all the money, and had moved into his beautiful home. But it was difficult knowing the dead man had such a beautiful monument erected in the memory of his life. He kept finding himself visiting

his dead partner's grave and admiring his beautiful monument with envy. And one evening after having a few drinks too many he went to the cemetery with several cans of spray paint and a heavy duty chain to do as much harm as possible to the granite monument. In a drunken rage he took the spray paint out of his vehicle, wrapped the chain around the monument and the other end to his trailer hitch. The next day the cemetery care taker was making his rounds of the cemetery and discovered the body of the jealous man hanging from his feet in a large tree by the chain. The body had been spray painted with orange and green paint with the heart removed. The police could never solve the case, but many people have claimed to hear laughter and snickering coming from the large granite monument. Submitted by Loyce B.
