on it there were so many things that happened. Come to find out when we were moving, everyone in that area of Powhatan knew it was haunted.

Comment by Bill: There are many portals that open and close throughout Powhatan. I am sure there are many people who have heard the screaming lady or smelled the wet dog smell of a big foot walking through the county at night. Many people died here in the Indian wars and from cruel slave masters.
Don't be afraid to tell your story here. God only knows we need to hear from all of you out there!.

While living in Powhatan a few episodes of apparitional activity occurred. I will mention two episodes with the first one sending chills up my spine as I recollect on my experience. The second one my teenage daughter saw firsthand after receiving the brunt of many of the ghostly happenings.
First, I had parked my car in the U-shaped driveway right directly in front of the paved bricks that was our walkway to the front entrance. I left most of my belongings in the car because I had to go to the bathroom so badly. All I took with me was the keys (to the house and car with attached car remote). Before entering the house I locked the car using the remote, heard it lock and witnessed the car's lights flashing which is normal routine when locking the car. I put my keys down on the counter next to the mixer before running to the bathroom downstairs. Afterwards, I picked up the keys to get my things out of the car. Before I did, I unlocked the car using the remote on the keys I had before put on the counter. I then put the keys back on the counter by the mixer. I was on the walkway about 2 feet from the car and the car locked by itself! I heard the car click, the sound it makes when it locks, and the lights flashed! I had nothing on me and nobody was home!! I freaked internally, but tried not to show any emotion. I definitely felt watched. Then, I went to get the keys again, unlocked the car again from the foyer aware that I unlocked the car. I wanted to see what would happen, but at the same time was scared! I put the keys on the monkey-tail railing afterwards. I walked outside again, and stretched out my right hand ready to grab the door handle when, again, the car's lights flashed and I heard click! It did it again!!! Next time I grabbed the keys locked the door and got into the car w/ keys in hand. I had to pick up my kids from a friend's house. I could not wait to tell my teenage daughter for much of this strange activity would happen almost daily. She was so relieved that she was not the only one this ghost was haunting!
The next story I am about to tell you happened the day we moved out. Again, we moved not because of the ghost, but due to a job transfer. I loved that house! Anyway, my husband was loading the last minute little stuff into the van, and I had the other car that was already packed. Then Jessie, who was sitting in the back seat, felt compelled to look back. She saw what she believed was the ghost that was responsible for all the past occurrences. She said he was peering out the window upstairs with the curtains pulled to one side, so he can get a better view. She said he was young, and thinks he was a confederate soldier with short straight brown hair. I believe he was saying good bye.
