Saltville, Virginia Ghost Sightings
I was originally from Saltville and I heard some strange noises from the old Olin plant - screaming like this was back in the 1990s. I went to look see and there weren't anyone there. Maybe it was the wind but I don't know-was anyone hurt there?.|

I bought an old rocking chair that had come from the Fullen house down near Valley View Church . One morning I came home from work; it was a beautiful sunny morning, and I heard drums beating. I just thought it was the kids in band practicing. I went to the back room to go to bed. The drums were like Bongo drums. They got louder and louder. Finally, they were picking up my heart beat. I jumped out of bed to run outside to see what it was.
On my way through the kitchen the drums stopped, and there was that old rocking chair sitting there rocking like somebody was there, and it stopped just like somebody had stopped it. I got to the kitchen door and couldn't pass that chair. I forgot how to open the door because I had it padlocked from the inside with a combination lock, and I forgot the combination. I finally calmed down and got the door open. Then I went to see the chair. It had been made by slaves for Miss Elanor Fullen. Another time I heard those Bongo drums was before the death of Edwin Hartman. It sounded like a party going on, and those same Bongo drum beats.

Tumbling Creek was on the Swift Silver tales. There is a field near Cardwell's house named for a man named Flint. I thought it was named for the arrowheads and things in the field. The Moore family lived there in the 1790s. William got it in a land grant for his service in the revolutionary war. He died in 1830s, and his widow sold the place to the Helton family. There are many ghost stories told about the Swift Silver. John Swift killed out his crew before he got the coast of North Carolina, hired a crew and took his silver back to England. He killed a man and stole the silver plates to make coins. The plates were dated 1754. Swifts' wagon can be heard in the area of the old road to little tumbling cove and down the old Helen Henderson highway. There is a map of the place during the 1700s at the historical society in Abingdon.
