If you think about it Smithfield was a very Early settlement in the Early 1600's. So not Only is it rich with history it is still a simple town but it and the surrounding towns are growing fast. We still do not have our first indoor movie theater. But that is what makes it a Nice place. The old homes are beautiful. It is the Home of the gwaltney's. Gwaltney ham bacon sausage and so on.     But there are other legendary homes and historical people as well. I have lived in the Smithfield area for 13 years. The property that we live on has some history. The original property was owned by a wealthy Man as there was an old mansion on the property. When the property was sold back in the seventies the new owner was restoring the old homestead. One Day while he was at work a storm passed through and lighting hit the Homestead and the House burned to the ground.
