In 2007 or 2008 I was sitting in my living room in Red Oaks Mobile Community, my grandmother was in the shower. I thought I heard her leave the bathroom; I look back around the corner and saw what looked like a white orb fly across the hall from my room to hers (about 6 or 7 feet). Submitted by Jace

Some say Smithfield isn't haunted, well they're wrong. We have many hauntings but people just never hear of them. We have the Smithfield station where people can eat stay and shop. Employees have said that they see an older gentleman sitting at the bar holding a drink while staring into the air.

Many of the employees believe that he drowned in the river after leaving the bar one night. We also have the Smithfield Inn which is a restaurant inn and I believe shop but I could be wrong. An employee told my boss that there is a painting of a woman whose family originally owned the building. The employee states that when they leave for the night the painting is upside right but when they arrive in the morning it is upside down. Last but not least is Bacon's castle. There have been many reports that a fireball has been seen. The legend goes that one night when a young woman returned from meeting her lover in the corn field, that going up the stairs to her bedroom she brushed against a candle causing her hair to catch on fire.
