Dingess, West Virginia Ghost Tales

I spoke with my one of my sisters regarding the stories of ghost etc that was mentioned here. She like myself know of no ghost there. My mother was born and raised on Dingess Mountain. As children we would ride thru the tunnel and as dangerous as it seems without any headlights on. We slid down the mountains on trash can lids during the winter months. Myself, i was never really liked visiting there because i was born and raised in the city. Some of my sisters still stay in contact with the ones still alive and living on Dingess Mountain. I have heard that people died building that tunnel so i guess there could be ghost. My family members buried on that mountain,( i am sure would appreciate every one leaving them alone and to rest in peace. )And if you decide to roam around that mountain, i would advise you not too. They dont take kindly to vistiors that are not family.

My family lived and some are still living there today and are buried

on Dingess Mountain. As a child we would drive through the tunnel in the back of my uncles pick up truck. I did feel the essence of it being haunted but at no time did I ever see or hear anything out of the ordinary. I did hear the stories of the slaves, but never anything about a murder suicide. If you do like the tunnel it's best to stay out. My
family is buried above the dingess tunnel and my request is to let them be and rest in peace and stay off of Dingess Mountain.

My names is Deborah. My mother's family owned Dingess mountain. If you go up that long steep dirt road the first house you would run into belonged to her brother Bill and his wife and kids. The second house belonged to her mother and she was raised in that house. The next house you would run into belonged to her bother Lawerence and his wife and kids. Up and turning to the left around the bin was a house that belonged to her sister (Dorothy) and his husband and kids. My mother along with her mother is buried on that mountain. The kids are a live and grown now and i havent been in touch with them in years although other members of my family have. It wouldnt shock me that anyone saw ghost there because you are disturbing the people that lived on that mountain and are buried there. I would advise you to stay off the
mountain and leave the people there to rest and the ones still living well, you might get a shock from them. They dont like vistors there that dont belong. The tunnel is very spooky. As a child my uncle used to drive up thru there with the lights out on his truck and it was cold and creepy. I was always afraid that someone or something was going to jump out of the man holes that you stand in. Again, my advise to whom ever is roaming around there and you dont belong, leave them alone.
