My mother was born in 1912 and for a period of time lived in London, WV. Her father, jt Davis was a railroad engineer and made the run between Charleston and hinton. During the years of I believe, 1917 and 1925 while living in London several strange ghostly visions in and around the Davis home occurred.
Mom's father in order to board the train he made the run to Hinton on had to row across the Kanawha River and pick up same. He usually left on his run on Monday and returned on Thursday. On one ocassion the Davis family observed my grandfather rowing across the Kanawha on wednesdy afternoon (returning home from run) a full day sooner than usual.|
The family observed him getting off the boat and walking towards the house. As he was walking the family was distracted by a noise of some type and upon looking back for my grandfather, discovered he had disappeared.
He did return at his usual time on Thursday. On another ocassion, while returning from a trip, my grandfather observed a very tall man looking into the window of the Davis house. He reached to open the gate and when looking back up discovered the man had disappeared.
