1997 my husband and I along with his companies workers were camping in Brierfield iron works for two weeks. We knew nothing of it's history being from South Carolina. Our camping spaces were down in the holla (we later learned) on the back next to the woods across from the bridge where I experienced my first real rodeo on the right hand side at the end of the park. Being alone in the early morning after they all would go to work as I was laying

in the tent I would hear hoses hooves and men talking and laughing. I began to wonder exactly from where I kept hearing the sounds of horses and men. So

one day I went to pay the camping fee I asked the lady attendant on duty where the stables were. She asked why I asked that question. I told her I've been hearing running horses hooves. She told me what I was hearing were the sounds of the Civil War soldiers.
I was in awe and intrigued. She had my undivided attention. As I listened to her and soaked up her narrative of the history and life of the soldiers who had lived and died on the very land
