I can give you all of the history you want to know on the compress the company and people that worked there. The tunnel you speak of was an old drainage tunnel dug by the ccc back in the 30's. The tunnel runs North all of the way to the area where the wal-mart parking lot runs into the woods. It drained the swampland that wal-mart now     sits on and was once Farmland Many years ago. The tunnel ends just south of the compress property. The opening you can see from water ave. Ran under 3 of the original warehouses which have been torn down now. Unfortunately most of the older employees that worked there when I was Young have passed on now. But I have most of the stories from the warehouses tucked away in my memory. By the way the tunnel was not a part of the undergroud Railroad as Many people would like to think. It was dug almost 65 years after that time period.
