Wellborn, Florida Ghost Tales | |
|
|
Wellborn is now a small quiet town in northern Florida. Once it was larger then its sister towns to the east Lake city and to the west, Live Oak. But what most people around these parts don't know is it has the most grave yards of either Lake City or Live Oak. Most of these cemeteries are now just places of sandy dirt, markers no longer readable and rotten flowers. Several years ago I had taken a back road home and came across one of these forgotten cemeteries. I was amazed were it was. Right off of busy highway 90 and just west of Wellborn. I had been by here dozens of times and never noticed it.? Something about this shaded, moss covered spot made me want to stop. I got out of my car and walked thru the gate. A feeling of immediate sadness and heaviness came over me. But something told me to keep going. I briefly looked at tombstone after tombstone and felt such sorrow at the young ages, infants, one year old, two and eight year old twins. No one in the cemetery seemed to be over 12. I also noticed the last burial was 1864. I finally made

it to the back of the fenced in area and there a Hugh tree had fell over several graves. I stood there thinking how sad this neglected cemetery was. It was obvious the only visitors this cemetery had was drunken ones. I started to turn and leave when a noise made me turn to the back again. Part of me wanted to run and part of me said I'd been watching

horror movies too long. But there thru the trees on a bight sunny Florida day was a misty, white form. I stood frozen in my tracks as whatever it was floated away. I could not get out of that cemetery fast enough! Once I got home I recruited my husband to go back with me to check it out again. The second time thru the gate I did not have the heavy feeling. We walked to the back and looked around. There outside the fence barely noticeable was a grave and a small wooden grave marker that had grown into a tree. The writing on it was not legible, but if you were not looking for it you wouldn't notice it. I have no idea who was buried outside this fence, perhaps a slave, we'll never know. But even the lost need prayers. Submitted by Mary Categories: cemetery, children
When I was little, me and my sister Kaylee would sleep in the same room. She had her bed by the window and well one night we woke up around 4:48 caused by something outside the window. We got scared so we leaned toward the window

and something had hit her window. The next morning when we were leaving to go to school outside her window was 14 pebbles. I remember it forever because it's that kind of thing were the hair on the back of your neck stands up and you start shuttering. You start to get the feeling that somebody is watching you.
