Once it was larger then its sister towns to the east Lake city and to the west, Live Oak. But what most people around these parts don't know is it has the most grave yards of either Lake City or Live Oak. Most of these cemeteries are now just places of sandy dirt, markers no longer readable and rotten flowers. Several years ago I had taken a back road home and came across one of these forgotten cemeteries. I was     amazed were it was. Right off of busy highway 90 and just west of Wellborn. I had been by here dozens of times and never noticed it. Something about this shaded, moss covered spot made me want to stop. I got out of my car and walked thru the gate. A feeling of immediate sadness and heaviness came over me. But something told me to keep going. I briefly looked at tombstone after tombstone and felt such sorrow at the young ages, infants, one year old, two and eight year old twins. No one in the cemetery seemed to be over 12.
