There is a small graveyard outside my bedroom window. One morning I looked outside and saw a young man hanging in a tree in front of the graveyard! He was dressed in clothes that go way back in time! I was so curious that I asked our next door neighbor (rip) if he knew anything about the history of our land.

He claimed it was an old slave plantation. He uncovered multiple headstones and footstones that had been buried some were children obviously. He said that he remembered the hyder's burrying a slave baby beside the row of the other slaves.
I did some research and found out that hyder's did in fact own the land around the time period he claimed and according to early history of Carter county they owned several slaves! Every now and again I still see the young man hanging there....
But why'' what could have possibly happened to him to cause his hanging'' does anyone have any information relating to a slave man being hung on gap creek?.
