never heard a story or an explanation about that area or that person but if you have been to Kouts you know everyone knows everyone else and that woman was certainly not someone we knew or had heard of. I don't know exactly what she was but she scared the hell out of three ''tough'' kids without saying a word.

Comment by Possum96: Fascinating story. I live in Northwest Indiana (Region Rat, born and bred,) but I have not been to whatever field you saw this in. Yet, I have become interested in reports of what seem to be impossibly tall ghostly figures over the years.
When I was about fourteen, I heard a story from a caller on Jake Hartford's WLS radio talk show. The soldier was stationed in Germany, and witnessed an impossibly tall woman walking in a field. He could hardly explain it; the event was so strange. The apparition was accompanied by an odd odor of allspice, as the caller put it. She was also moving in a fashion that was not in keeping with her movement against her surroundings. I actually recorded this program because of my interest in the supernatural, and still occasionally play it back today.
About three years later, I must have been seventeen at the time, my girlfriend and I were driving down a swampy road on the outskirts of Crown Point. Neither of us were looking for anything paranormal that night; we were just driving home. Certainly the soldier's story was far from my mind. We came across a figure walking along the roadside, next to the marshy area. We both noticed it independently of each other, and were filled with an immediate sense of dread. This figure, male in appearance, seemed at least seven feet tall. What resonates with me now, after reading your account, is that he could have been construed as very Native American in appearance. To this day, I don't know exactly what we saw, but it was one of the strangest and most powerful things I've ever witnessed.
On a side note, and I don't know if this has anything to do with any of this, but supposedly years ago, a Native American burial mound was excavated near Walkerton, Indiana, and the bodies seemed to be those of ''giants. '' If I remember correctly, the article estimated the bodies at nearly ten feet tall. Are these apparitions' reflections of a race of very tall human relatives? Possibly some genetic mutation in the local indigenous people who once lived here? Either way, thanks for sharing a story that adds another piece to the puzzle of ''giant ghosts.'' Very intriguing.
Comment by Riley: I'm from Kouts and my parents told me about a woman like that. Not sure if you know the McMahans but they've told me a lot about what they've seen in the past. My dad said he saw it when he was my age around 1994.
