I used to live on South 27th Street a few blocks from Columbian Park. I lived there with my grandma until I got married. While living in my grandma's house (grandma is no longer with us, love you grandma) I would occasionally have a couple of different nightmares each year while living there. One of the nightmares was of this creature looking thing that lived in the basement. Every time I had this nightmare it would be the same as the last time I had it. The creature would draw me to where it stayed which was in a large hole in the wall which was covered by a cabinet that grandma used for her flower planters and tools. I would have to open the doors on it to look in a dark hole that did not exist in the real world. I took it like the creature just wanted me to know we both shared the same house.
The 2nd nightmare was the worse of the two. In this one I would see myself sleeping in my bed. I would not see the creature but I would instead see what must have been his hands with claws that would come up out of the bed along my sides and wrap around my chest which it would then begin pulling me down into the bed as if I was being sucked into the bed. I would pulled deeper and deeper into the bed unable to move, yell, or anything. Just at the last second when everything was starting to go black, as if I was actually near death, I would see a peeled corn cob rotating over and over spinning towards me and it would hit me right in the chest where the creature's hands were breaking them loose allowing my body to spring upward out of the hole in the bed. I would look across my room where I would see a man that was older than me standing near the closet. And then I would begin yelling for my grandma that would bring me out of the nightmare.
Now the freaky ending to this. I never told my grandma any details about either nightmare until after I had moved away. But not long before I did move I had learned something about my grandpa that I never knew because he had passed away when my mom was just a young teenager. My grandma told me that when my uncle lived at home my grandpa would sleep in the room with my uncle, he was sick or not feeling well. And that's when my grandpa had died, he died in his sleep. And also when he died he actually had died in that exact same bed I slept in while living at my grandma's.
This made me realize that the older man that would save me when throwing the corncob was most likely my grandpa. Since moving away I have never had either of those nightmare's and I may be wrong but when my grandpa did pass away in that bed I bet the bed sucked him in the hole taking his life. My grandma was 93 when she passed and when my grandpa had died she took care of her four kids and never remarried. I did ask my grandma once if she ever had any nightmares and her response was, no.
