My husband and I stayed at the Island House Hotel in 2010 when I was several months pregnant with our second child. I had read that a few months prior to our visit a ghost hunting association had visited the hotel and gathered quite a bit of evidence from the third and fourth floors. We stayed in a room on the third floor.
The first night I had a very uneasy feeling in the room. I stayed awake most the night, but I didn't see or hear anything unusual. The second night, probably so exhausted from not sleeping the night before I was finally dozing up around 3 am when I felt the entire bed shake. It was as if someone had grabbed the end of the mattress and shook it as hard as they could. I immediately jumped up and looked over at my husband, who hadn't moved and was snoring. I knew I wasn't going to fall back to sleep, so I sat awake, and no more than five minutes later the fire alarm went out in the hallway just outside our room. The entire hotel was evacuated for nearly an hour, and we overheard the fire department ask the front desk staff when they arrived, ''third floor again?''
I lost a pair of shoes here as well. I had them right by the door to wear when we checked out. When I went back to the area to gather everything to go they were gone. I called the front desk within an hour after leaving, and they said they couldn't locate them anywhere. We checked into a bed and breakfast for the next night, and our innkeeper asked where we had stayed. Upon telling him unprovoked, he told a story about staying there years ago and being woken in the middle of the night to his bed being shaken. At that point, my husband was a believer too!.

We just stayed at the island for a couple days (from 9-18-13 to 9-20-13 ) which was what brought me to this website. Upon arrival at the island I was a person who was undecided on whether I even believed in ghosts or not. We were booked at a hotel, but the day before we arrived we received an email that the hotel had overbooked, and our room had been changed. We were moved right downtown into a complex owned by the hotel. It sits directly to the west of the Sheplers Dock.
On our first night there after my wife had gone to sleep my son and I were lying on the pull out couch watching TV. Then I had the sensation of someone walking up behind me. I assumed it was my wife making her way out for a drink of water. Then I heard a very strange noise which was hard to describe, but basically it sounded as if someone was whispering directly into my right ear. My son and I both jumped and turned around to find no one standing there. Later that night (around 3:00 am) my wife awoke with a scream. I jumped up and asked her what happened, and she said that she had heard a very strange noise directly above her while sleeping that startled her and awoken her immediately. I had never told her about the experience a few hours earlier.
