Centennial history book.  In that book I noticed a photo of a neighbor's two-story house.  The current house is only one story high.  The neighbor then told us that before we moved to the area they were so disturbed by voices coming from upstairs when no one was there that in the middle of winter (when it almost never rains here) they removed the top story.  The voices went away.
