Melrose, Ohio Ghost Tales We moved to Oakwood when I was going into 7th grade. The whole area seems closed off from the rest of town, one of those midwest suburbs that wants to feel above the rest of the town. I have four brothers and we moved into a fairly old home across the street from the Dayton Country Club. It's an old red brick house and we were told that alot of families had lived in it throughout the years. The house had a very narrow back stairway that we were told used to be the servants stairs. We all experienced paranormal events while living there. I myself woke one night and a form, well a lit area, almost like fog in headlights was next to my bed. I rolled over and covered myself, scared to scream, every hair on my body stood up. Right now I'm getting the same feeling just thinking back. Another time we were all coming home from school and walking in through the door next to the kitchen, the way we always came in, and my mom screamed and ran back outside. She said through the door on the other side of the kitchen that you can see all the way to the other       side of the house through, she saw someone at the base of the stairs. Also numerous times I got chills throughout the house. The servant stair way was extremly narrow and my brothers and I would always run up and down it. Numerous times we slipped and fell, leading me to think there might have been some serious accident occur there in the past. Also   my brother and I shared the attic area that had been renovated at some point and carpeted etc, thats where I saw the figure, I still think she was a woman but I was too petrified to even think at the time. We found out that the attic also used to be where the servants lived. Again maybe someone died there. Also one day we were playing outside and two girls showed up. They said they used to live in the house and then they moved away. apparently there used to be an old pool next to the house on the hill between another home. Between the 70s and when we moved there in the late 90s it was filled in, but they said that they always used to get scared around it and they thought/ heard rumors that someone drowned in the pool. They also agreed that there were definetly spririts or somthing in the house. Since moving we always talk and think about the house as somthing beyond this world. Also I've read since that the country club across the street is haunted, and that the highschool/junior high that I attended for 3 years is also haunted. This area would be a great place to research. Though the people who live there might be less than cooperative.
