Mount Vernon, Ohio Ghost Tales I recently have taken a trip to mont. Vernon and have heard stories of a university that had a few dorms catch on fire. A lot of students died, the university rebuilt new dorm rooms over the old ones and there have been sightings. the levels of the buildings have changed so people say you can only see the dead students waist up or down and that they walk between floors where the old dorm floors would be if it hadn't been burned. check into it. There is a ghost (not visible) that has on occasion opened the front doors of the store when no one is present outside (or near enough to open them from the inside) and no wind. A woman having a knife in her head has sometimes been seen by Adams Run trying to find a bag. Regardless of what, this ghost unquestionably is menacing; one that is preferably not disturbed. The ghost of a young Indian combatant is every now and then made out sipping gasoline in a motor boat on Lake Hiawatha. The ghost of an aircraft pilot has purportedly been seen on a small number of occasions in a Mount Vernon area supermarket, walking the aisles. Folks assert that this ghost is the ghost of a vacationer that was murdered while traveling through Mount Vernon in the past.
