Waynesville, Ohio Ghost Tales My family recently moved to Waynesville. We love our little old country house and have never felt scared there despite the strange things we've seen and heard. At first, we only heard footsteps, but gradually other sounds and sightings have happened. Many times, we've heard footsteps on the second floor that seem to walk up and down the hallway to the back bedroom where our toddler sleeps. He is in a crib still and doesn't climb out, and when we've gone to investigate, he is always fast asleep. The footsteps are slow, almost deliberate. To be honest, they're almost like a shuffle. They will walk from the stairway, down the hall to the back bedroom, pause for a while, then retrace their steps. Sometimes, at night while sleeping in bed, I get the distinct feeling that I'm being watched over, and have sat up in bed, half expecting to see an intruder. I'm never really ''scared'' though, but sometimes it is unsettling. Then, within a few seconds of being roused out of a deep sleep, I'll hear the shuffling footsteps retreat to the back bedroom.       One night, I had that feeling, and before I sat up or even opened my eyes, I said aloud, ''We're ok, thank you for checking on us'' and when I opened my eyes, I saw something opaque turning out of my room into the hallway. I went to check on the kids, and they were all fast asleep. Before I went back to bed I said aloud again, ''Are you checking on   the children?'' and I heard a very distinct, but very tender ''shhhhh. '' These events really freaked my husband out, but for some reason, I got the feeling that this was just an old soul ''doing her rounds'' at night to make sure we were all tucked in bed. After a lot of persistence, I convinced him that I really do not feel any ambivalence from this... Whatever it is and he seems to have relaxed about it as well. Since that night, I've seen that somewhat white, yet opaque fleeting shape a few times, always at night and always after at least one of the children have gone to bed. Although when caught off guard, it can be a little unnerving, almost always, I just feel like we're being ''tended to'' by a sweet old woman. I've tried to find out information about previous owners and the history of our home, to no avail. Or at least, nothing notable. .
