It has been told that two indians were buried a few feet outside the Fence of the small Smith cemetery 2 Miles North of griswold. Their spirits seem to seek a path into the hallowed ground they were denied! More than a few people have witnessed this.

It has been said, that at midnight, restless spirits linger in the Griswold city park near a G.A.R. war memorial

that was torn down and sold several years ago.'' Some say that they are ghosts of Iowa Civil War soldiers that died during the battle of Vicksburg

in 1863.'' Those who have seen them, have stated that it appears that they are searching for their missing memorial. When approached, they slowly faded away, just like the memory of their brave deeds !.
