Marshalltown, Iowa Ghost Tales We have witnessed many strange things in our home....I have seen a figure of what we believe to be a departed ancestor in our upstairs hallway and our dogs bark down the upstairs steps when everyone is sleeping...also we hear people walking up and down the stairs at night when once again everyone is sleeping. Submitted by J.V. I just bought a house here in Marshalltown and have heard several stories about my house being haunted from neighbors and the person we bought our house from. My son and I have witnessed several incidents with our ghost in the 7 months we have lived in the house. Our home used to be the old nurse's dorm when the college was located uptown. Our ghost has been witnessed several times looking out of the picture window in the parlor and in the attic. She has some sort of uniform on and seems to be middle aged. She is never frightening, but makes her presence known. We hear footsteps, banging, doors slamming, pocket doors rattling, lights and electronics going on and off, chandeliers swinging, water faucets going on       and off, we hear our names being called out, we see doors open and close on their own, and she likes to take pretty things. Our pets even feel her presence. They bark and howl at seemingly empty spaces in the house. When we first moved in, we found out she did not like the windows or doors closed and locked. Every time we would leave,close and lock   the windows and doors, we would come home to find them all opened up again. As the weather got cold, she does not do this anymore, but she will still unlock them. She has touched me and my son. One night while I was at work, my son called me to let me know that he was very sick. I told him to take some tylenol and go to bed and I would be home ASAP. He was sleeping when I came home a few hours later, but in the morning when he woke, he told me that he saw his door open up and felt a presence sitting beside him on his bed and felt something holding his hand through the night. He said it made him feel safe. People have told us to contact ghost hunting societies to have our house authentisized as a haunted house, but since our ghost is not a creepy, scarey ghost I am not sure they would be interested. But I did want to add my story to your web page to let people know that all ghosts do not have to be creepy and scary. We are glad to have our ghost as a part of our family. Thank You! D. Mundy.
