Melbourne, Iowa Ghost Tales There's a house on Gerhart on a hill that used to be a boarding house when the trains came through town. It is owned by a nice couple but used to be in a trust for over a hundred yrs. The house has seen a lot of deaths, four children in the 1800s died of  scarlet fever there. Its reported the house has many ghosts, but the current owners  will not talk about it. Submitted by J White       Categories: home, children, family AT 3:00 A.M. a train can be heard traveling down the old train tracks. It can be heard blasting its horn for one hour. By 3:30 the train can be heard reaching the end of Melbourne before it seems to be reversing and is gone by 4:00 A.M. Also the roaring of the tracks can be distinguished and, if you are close enough the ground seems to slightly shake.
