There's not a thing odd involving Salem, Iowa while the sun is up, but this municipality has menacing enigmas hidden in the darkness. Statues dance around, words out of nowhere. Some local residents claim there are no phantoms, but bloodcurdling things certainly happen here in Salem during the moonlight hours.

The ghost of a pregnant woman can once in a while be witnessed in the middle of Berry Branch reading a magazine.
A beheaded gentleman was witnessed grasping a human skull in Big Creek County Park at midnight. There are additional descriptions involving this spirit in the area. Folks here who have noticed this ghost say this ghost may be the soul of a resident who passed away here in Salem before the present.
A woman with her head and both arms severed emerged in a Salem secondary school after midnight wandering the hallways. Additional accounts of this phantom have been reported.

a blood-covered machete appeared in a mirror in a Salem house; the ghost was exclusively visible in the mirror. Numerous folks close by have had similar happenings with a very similar spirit.
The phantom of a civil war warrior was distinguished in a flat near Salem. This is one of those ghosts that is noticed repeatedly close at hand.
