I live near Sutherland one night when we were coon hunting. We stumbled upon the old stagecoach trail, and felt like we were being watched. We continued to walk and we thought we heard something following us. We turned around and saw nothing so we continued. Later we still thought we heard something, this time when we turned around and saw, in the thickets a pair of red glowing eyes staring at us. By the time we got out wits to shoot it; it vanished into the blackness of the woods. I've heard people from Peterson and south of Sutherland that they have seen a pair of red eyes in the woods. It is believed to be a native American spirit that haunts it's old territories. Since not a mile away from my house there was an Indian dig that the university of Iowa was conducting.
