Sutherland, Iowa Ghost Tales We moved to Sutherland in 2005. We lived in a house on Mason St across from the football field. It seemed the house had been left abandoned when we had moved in. The house is older and always gave us a strange feeling when we'd enter it. About six months after moving in my boyfriend and I had a friend that spent the night and claimed he had been kept up all night from all the noise our cats were making upstairs- we didn't have any cats or animals at that time. A few months later my boyfriend and his friend were playing a video game upstairs in this tiny room we turned into a game room- that was strange, it had 2 windows with one being oddly in the closet...one night the closet door was cracked open and our friend was standing with his back to the closet and my boyfriend sitting off behind him to his left saw our friends shirt be pulled back towards the closet. Our friend turned to find nobody behind him. There was nobody else in the room and the window in the closet had been shut. Submitted by anonymous       Categories:       home, noises I live near Sutherland one night when we were coon hunting. We stumbled upon the old stagecoach trail, and felt like we were being watched. We continued to walk and we thought we heard something following us. We turned around and saw nothing so we continued. Later we still thought we heard something, this time when we turned   around and saw, in the thickets a pair of red glowing eyes staring at us. By the time we got out wits to shoot it; it vanished into the blackness of the woods. I've heard people from Peterson and south of Sutherland that they have seen a pair of red eyes in the woods. It is believed to be a native American spirit that haunts it's old territories. Since not a mile away from my house there was an Indian dig that the university of Iowa was conducting.
