Comment by Susan: Brenda, you're not crazy. This cowboy as you call him would always show up where Bear Creek crosses under Frontage Road when there were serious snow storms. The one time I saw him, he stepped out of a cloud of blowing snow. I was so shocked that all I can recall was that he was dressed in what appeared to be a Carhartt tan garb. There was so much snow, and he disappeared so quickly that I thought it was possibly a trapper or a hobo. Nonetheless, I knew it was a ghost. My feeling was that he was a trapper that froze to death. Consequently, he would always need attention when the blizzards came.
Since my work at the time was near that area, there were two instances that come to mind. One time an article flew off a shelf for no reason. Believe me, I looked for a reason, while other co-workers joked it was a ghost. I had already seen him, so I kept quiet. Another store brought a small machine that had every screw loosened on it. After that, every storm I would focus intently on telling him to go to the light; his family is there, and the pelts always have the thickest fur. I don't know if he heard my thoughts, but guess what; he eventually quit showing up there during the storms. May he rest in peace.
Comment by Susan: Just saw a picture that looked a lot like our ''cowboy.'' You would have to add about 20 years because this picture doesn't have the wrinkles under the eyes and gauntness in the cheeks. The picture has the same mustache eyes and a beard about 2'' longer. Imagine my surprise at finding out it's Nelson story. I'm not saying it is him wandering Bear Creek, but the resemblance is remarkable.

I still remember it clear as yesterday even though it was 33 years ago. I was 6 and my sister was 7 I know what I saw was real! It was a pretty freaky experience for a little kid. We were playing at Beall Park in Bozeman and I noticed this sad lady sitting on a hilly area in the grass. She wore a ratty white nightgown and she looked like she was crying. Curious my sis and I approached her, she had chains dangling from her wrists and ankles and long messy blond hair. We tried to talk to her but she seemed to be in a daze, she was sobbing and was babbling something like 'they did it the men where are they?' She didn't seem to know we were talking to her. My sis got scared and demanded we get away from her so as we walked away. I turned around and she had vanished.
I've often wondered if anyone else ever had the same experience and have done a lot of research on that to no avail and I'll always refer to her as the white lady in chains, makes for a great Halloween story and this one was real.
